On our outings, Julie often wanted to shop. Fortunately, since I'm not a shopper, there was always a nearby pub in which I happily passed the time while Julie sought her treasures. Here is the view from the roof-top bar above the John Lewis store.
The John Lewis rooftop was very pleasant. It was a calm and boozy break from the hubbub of the London streets below.
We relied heavily on "the tube" to get all around London. Often the platforms and stations were packed and we were moving too quickly to snap photos. Here is a rare glimpse of a calm moment on a squeaky-clean tube platform.
The tube does not have a single layer of depth. Some lines are set deeply into the Earth and feature escalators or lifts. Some lines even pass above or below each other. The whole system is really remarkable and efficient.
There always seems to be at least one beautiful woman riding the tube.
Double-decker buses are, of course, iconic vehicles on London's streets. We rarely used them since they are much slower than the tube. But, on the trip pictured, we caught a bus, choosing seats on the top level.
We waited for the windshield seats to open up, and when they did, we moved forward to soak up this view.
Julie sought out London's Paul Smith shop — Paul Smith being among her favorite British clothing designers. I sought out a pub, just a stone's throw away, for a London Pride ale and a bump of Woodford.
Often, the pubs I visited, like my trips on the tube, were not well suited to photography — too packed to get a good shot. This pub, in the middle of the day, was an exception and, I think, exceptionally pretty.
At St. Pancras Station, we rented a car. From here we set out to Newark for a couple of days, to attend an antique fair.
