Puerto Penasco's beautiful beaches were just a stone's throw from far less beautiful beaches and trash strewn lots.

The city's dirt roads were rough enough to justify the many businesses renting off-road vehicles and even horses.

Beyond the chain-link fence on the right was a lovely beach. I nearly experienced whiplash seeing such blight so near such beauty. — Peter

Mexico was torture for a tidy German like me. Time and time again, I longer for a shop broom and trash bag. — Peter

These poor pups needed their people to clean up the shit piling up in their pen. At least they weren't as bony as the roaming street dogs

In Puerto Penasco, there were many abandoned buildings, construction projects left incomplete, and dump sites like this one. Just awful!

There has to be a story here. Maybe union busting, or union corruption, accounts for the large number of half-finished construction sites in the city.

Sadly, I'd say this photo captures classic Mexico. It doesn't tell the whole story, but it is part of the story of this place that I can't ignore. — Peter
