Home, during our stay in Tuscon, was the Downtown Clifton, a funky (if not a little hard-scrabble) hotel.

Here is the courtyard of the Clifton. From the Clifton we could easily walk to the city's downtown.

Our first and favorite watering hole in Tuscon was Monica's. Here we had Tuscon-based beers and whiskeys.

Well, Peter had beers and whiskeys. Julie opted for sangria and, in her view, Monica's served a doozy.

The lovely courtyard at Monica's filled up nicely in the evenings. This photo was taken early in the afternoon before the crowds arrived.

Monica's courtyard featured this terrific mural of a tweed ride in the desert. In case you're wondering, tweed rides are a thing — click here to see.

Mariachi players serenaded diners on our first restaurant outing in Tuscon.
