Amongst the graffiti, the astute viewer will notice a bunny in the shop window, and another bunny-like creature behind the bicycle — sort of an alien lizard bunny, I guess. I must say, I was really struck by how clean the sidewalks and streets were.

(insert angelic "ahhh" sound here) This is Julie's bagel shop, or, in London parlance, "beigel". Despite the somewhat late hour, the place was jumping, and we jumped too... right into the queue.

Dudes in the back, visible to the customers, are churning out the beigels. The beigels in the display cases are still-warm- fresh. At the end of the cases, a worker stuffs the beigels with salt beef, mustard, and pickle. Julie's excitement mounts!

Julie has the first go and she's not foolin' around. I wanted to take a photo of this famous beigel, like folks do nowadays on Instagram and such, but I feared I'd be bitten if I tried.

Now that Julie's chewing, it's safe to get my Instagramy photo, and here it is. Believe me, the hype is well deserved. There is magic in this combination of flavors. And, if you are a couple of sheets to the wind, a salt beef beigel is heavenly.

Presentation is correct too, I think. We dined at a narrow, stand-up metal counter, discretely observing other creatures of the night by watching them in the graffitied mirror. Our beigel didn't have time to cool down since we devoured it on the spot.

Twin Citians, who know the joys of Mickey's Diner, or Uncle Frankie's weinie joint, might appreciate how spectacular Brick Lane Bakery is. But I'll say this, the beigels are way more delicious than anything on the menu at Mickey's or Frankie's.

Third-eye bunny strikes me as a little sinister.

Shops may be closed on Brick Lane at night, but pubs and clubs are bustling. In this photo, I only meant to capture the overall scene, but wound up catching a tender (and maybe a little drunken) moment between the couple sitting next to me.

This photo was taken for my buddy Paul, whose nickname is Pabs (because of his deep fondness for PBR). Paul is also English. He's from Birmingham — a proud brummie, he'll tell you. I thought Paul would be amused and appalled that I'd travel to London and drink cheap American beer. I assure you this was my one and only PBR and I threw back more Fuller's London Pride, and Camden Ales that I can remember.
